Context

McDonald's is an American fast-food restaurant chain that was founded in 1940 by Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California. The brothers started off as a hot dog stand and then transitioned into a drive-thru restaurant. The company became known for its iconic branding, including the golden arches.

Today, McDonald's is one of the world's largest fast-food chains and has over 100 items on the menu.

Brief

As a UX/UI designer, I'm always looking for opportunities to tackle complex design challenges and create experiences that make people's lives easier. With this in mind, I recently took on a personal project to redesign the McDonald's mobile app.

Through iterative design, I developed a new look and feel for the app that simplifies the ordering process, creates a cohesive design system, and elevates the overall visual experience.

Moodboard

Before beginning the UI process, I created a moodboard of previous McDonald’s campaigns and graphics to inspire me and aid with the direction. I focused on simple but affective branding images as McDonald’s has iconically always remained pretty simple and straightforward. I took inspiration from colours and several vintage images as I felt they evoke the success and identity of McDonald’s.
